Road Trip! 5 Tips for Traveling with Baby
Double up on the essentials: whatever your baby can’t do without, whether it be a blanket, toy or dummy. Ensure you pack enough food and drinks to see you and baby through the journey.
A Good Time to Talk
Bring baby’s favorite music or a CD of nursery rhymes that allow you to sing along. Call out passing landmarks or describe your destination so that baby can hear your voice.
Pick The Right Time to Leave
Do what you can to encourage baby to take a nap along the way – before you even get in the car. Try feeding baby right before leaving home and perform one last nappy check before leaving the driveway.
Bring along soft, appropriate toys. Avoid anything solid, heavy or with sharp corners that could become projectiles in case of an accident. Consider buying a soft toy that attaches to baby’s car seat.
Keep it Comfortable
Plan opportunities to stop every couple of hours if you’re on a long journey. Build in a bit of time to stretch your legs and get baby out of the car seat for a cuddle. If travelling with older children as well, try to pick interesting places to visit along the way.
