Anyone who has shopped for baby gear will know that the various choices and types of strollers can be quite overwhelming. You have strollers, jogging strollers, umbrella strollers, old-fashioned prams and everything in between, with various add-ons and in a variety of colours, with a range of price tags. Here are a few things to consider when buying a stroller or pram.
Start with something suitable for a new-born
New-borns need a carriage system that allows them to lie flat. Some products offer this option and nothing else, and this is ok for a new baby, as long as you’re aware that you’ll need a new set of wheels after a few months. Other strollers have a flat bassinet option that can be converted to a seated stroller, which may be more practical.
Check the handlebars and the steering
You’ll be the driver, so it makes sense to ‘test drive’ the stroller. Ensure the handle bars are at the right height for you and that you can walk easily. Check the weight and dimensions, and see if it is easy to get through narrower spaces and turn the stroller.
Check the accessories
Where will the baby bag go? Where will the sippy cup go? Where will you put the groceries? Assess the stroller’s accessories, holders and compartments, and ensure that you can remain organised and hassle-free when using it.
Folding and packing
Does the pram or stroller easily fit into your car, and is it easily stored at home? Can you travel with it? Consider your needs, and where you will be going.
Set your budget before you go
Try to decide on your budget range before you buy baby’s wheels.
